Part of Artscape’s Artist Collaboration Series, Portland-based artist Ilse Coffman brings a tactile, process-driven approach to pattern and form. With a background in painting, collage, and printmaking, her work is rooted in experimentation, using techniques like inking on wet paper, hand-cut layering, and embossing to create surfaces that feel ancient and immediate.

Ilse's two designs for Artscape, Tokens and Grove, reflect her art's signature balance: rhythmic, organic patterns that invite warmth, movement, and reflection. Inspired by early mark-making traditions and the power of nature, Ilse’s work offers a modern sense of calm with a handcrafted soul, designed to pair with natural materials and interiors that value softness, subtlety, and depth.
